Official Commissioning of Dr. Amina Bello Women Health Centre: Breaking Ground of New Possibilities
RAiSE Foundation is proud to officially commission Dr. Amina Bello Women Health Centre, Kontagora. The centre was built in partnership with Mainstream Foundation and it’s a component of RAiSE Foundation’s Reproductive health interventions targeted at the treatment and rehabilitation of obstetric fistula patients.
Our interventions are based on a vision “OF A NIGERIA WHERE NO WOMAN DIES OF PREGNANCY RELATED CAUSES” and they are aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality. Obstetric fistula is one of the most devastating complications of delivery which causes constant leakage of urine such that the affected woman is surrounded by the stench of urine. Typically, the obstetric fistula patient is poor, with little or no access to healthcare and is usually stigmatized and ostracized from her family and community as a result of her condition. It is estimated that there are over 12,000 women living with Obstetric fistula and new cases are diagnosed daily.
Over the last four years, the Foundation has treated and rehabilitated over three hundred Obstetric fistula patients in different locations across the three zones in Niger State. Based on our experience treating the women and seeing the burden and prevalence of the disease, we found a need to establish a women’s health centre where patients can be given comprehensive care.
The centre aims to provide;
- Free surgical treatment for women living with Obstetric fistula
- Social re-integration through skills acquisition and counseling for patients
- Family planning services
- Antenatal clinics and maternity care as preventive measures.
