PREGNANT WOMEN IN BEJI COMMUNITY RECIEVE BIRTH KITS
In the bid to reduce maternal and Neo-Natal mortality and morbidity, women have been advised to shun unskilled traditional birth practices capable of endangering their lives and that of their babies during pregnancy and while breastfeeding .
Wife of the Niger State Governor and Founder Raise Foundation Dr Amina Abubakar Bello stated this today at the Foundation’s Maternal Health Education program in Beji Primary Health care Centre, Bosso LocalGovernment Area of NigerState.
She said attending antenatal clinics and delivering at the Health facility under the supervision of a skilled birth attendant will result to safer deliveries and less complications for mother and child.
Dr. Amina explained that complications leading to Obstetric fistula can be prevented if a woman does not stay longer than necessary in Labour without skilled intervention.
Pregnant women present at the health facility on antenatal visit were given delivery kits which contains all items needed at the point of delivery as well as food packs as incentives to encourage healthy maternal and child practices among women especially in rural communities.
Our Founder used the opportunity to emphasise the importance of girl child education as it will translate to being able to make best decisions about her health and that of her family.
The foundation’s activities towards achieving the goal of reducing Maternal mortality includes
- Provision of delivery kits to pregnant women
*Community based volunteers to mobilize women for antenatal clinics
*Training of health workers and community based volunteers
*Provision of emergency transportation scheme, - Awareness and sensitization, amongs others.
