#RAiSE1k 2023 Q1 Newsletter

Dear Esteemed Sponsor/Supporter,

We hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits. We want to express our sincerest gratitude for your continued support of our NGO, RAiSE Foundation. Your generosity has enabled us to positively impact the lives of women and girls in Nigeria.

We are excited to share with you some of the highlights of our first quarter of 2023. In partnership with ACEPHAP, we conducted a sensitization program for health workers in rural communities in Nigeria. The program was aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of health workers to provide quality care to their patients, especially in the area of maternal and child health.

We also donated over 400 delivery kits (mama kits) to Primary Healthcare facilities in some local government areas in Niger State to aid pregnant women in delivery. These kits contained essential items such as sterile gloves, gauze, cord clamps, and sanitary pads, which will go a long way in ensuring safe delivery for women in these communities.

We are proud of what we have achieved so far, but we know that there is still much work to be done. In the coming months, we plan to embark on more exciting new projects to positively impact the lives of women and girl-child. But we cannot do this without your continued support.

Your support means a lot to us, and we are grateful for every contribution that you have made towards our cause. We want to urge you to continue to support us in any way that you can. Whether it is through financial donations, volunteering your time and skills, or spreading the word about our work, every little bit helps.

We believe that with your continued support, we can achieve even greater things and positively impact the lives of more women and girls in Nigeria.

Thank you once again for your support, and we look forward to your continued partnership with us.

Warm Regards,

Ruth Mamman Jiya

2023 Kick-Off: 5-Day Capacity Building Workshop on Basic Emergency Obstetric Care for Health Workers in Niger State.

RAiSE Foundation kicked off the year 2023 by conducting a five-day capacity building workshop for healthcare workers in Niger State on basic emergency obstetric care. The workshop, which was held from January 30th to February 3rd, was done in partnership with the Africa Centre of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHAP).

The objective of the workshop was to equip healthcare workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide basic emergency obstetric care, which is crucial in reducing maternal mortality and improving maternal health outcomes. Participants were trained on identifying obstetric emergencies, managing postpartum hemorrhage, performing neonatal resuscitation, and communicating effectively with patients.

Through our partnership with ACEPHAP, healthcare workers were able to access high-quality training materials and experienced facilitators, resulting in a more comprehensive training experience and better outcomes for pregnant women and their babies.

The RAiSE Foundation and ACEPHAP remain committed to improving maternal health outcomes in Niger State, and we will continue to work towards achieving this goal through various initiatives.

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month – February.

As part of our ongoing efforts to increase awareness about cancer in Niger State, we participated in the 2023 Cervical Cancer Awareness Month by conducting a talk on Badeggi FM Radio. The month-long awareness campaign aimed to educate women about cervical cancer, its risk factors, and the importance of early detection through regular screening.

Cervical cancer is a preventable and treatable disease, yet it remains a significant health threat to women worldwide. In Niger State, limited access to healthcare services and low levels of awareness about the disease contribute to its high prevalence.

By participating in the awareness month and conducting the talk on Badeggi FM Radio, we were able to reach a wider audience and educate them about the importance of cervical cancer screening. We also emphasized the need for women to get vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a leading cause of cervical cancer.

Still on Cancer Awareness Month…

World Cancer Day: Close the Care Gap

Our Founder and CEO, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello, First Lady of Niger State, joined other members of the First Ladies Coalition Against Cancer (FLAC) to advocate for improved cancer care in Nigeria during a book launch titled “Footprints” in commemoration of the 2023 World Cancer Day.

The book highlights the activities of FLAC members over the past four years to increase cancer awareness in the states, their various partnerships to improve access to cancer screening services, as well as facilitating the development and ongoing implementation of sub-national cancer control plans.

During the book launch, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello and other FLAC members emphasized the need for increased investment in cancer care and treatment, particularly in low- and middle-income countries like Nigeria. They also highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in the fight against cancer, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector.

The event provided a platform for the First Ladies to share their successes and challenges in implementing cancer control programs in their respective states. It also highlighted the important role that First Ladies can play in advocacy and resource mobilization for cancer control.

As an NGO committed to increasing cancer awareness and advocating for better access to screening and treatment in Niger State, we are proud to be part of the larger FLAC network. We applaud the efforts of Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello and other FLAC members in advocating for improved cancer care in Nigeria, and we remain committed to our mission of reducing the burden of cancer in our communities.

2023 International Women’s Day:

March 8th is annually commemorated as International Women’s Day, a day set aside to recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide. RAiSE Foundation was proud to participate in this year’s celebration.

As an organization committed to gender equality and women’s empowerment, we recognize the importance of this day in highlighting the contributions of women to society. Our participation in the celebration included organizing events and activities that aimed to promote gender equality and empower women.

We conducted awareness campaigns on women’s rights and the need to eliminate gender-based violence. We also organized training and capacity-building programs aimed at empowering women with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their personal and professional lives.

Our participation in International Women’s Day is a testament to our commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women in Niger State. We believe that when women are empowered, they can make significant contributions to their communities and the world at large.

Facility Visit to Paiko and Beji Primary Health Care Centres

RAiSE Foundation recently conducted a facility visit to Paiko and Beji Primary Health Care Centers to monitor and evaluate our Maternal and Child Health Care intervention program. The visit was aimed at assessing the impact of our program on the health outcomes of women and children in the communities we serve.

During the visit, we also distributed delivery kits to the health facilities for pregnant women who attend Antenatal clinics. We are proud to report that in the first quarter of 2023, we have donated over 400 delivery kits to the 15 Primary Health Care Centers of our intervention in collaboration with Mainstream Foundation.

This donation is a part of our commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes in Niger State. We believe that providing delivery kits to pregnant women will contribute significantly to reducing maternal and child mortality rates in the communities we serve.

Our Maternal and Child Health Care intervention program is a critical part of our efforts to improve the health outcomes of women and children in Niger State. We are committed to working with our partners and stakeholders to ensure that our programs are sustainable and have a lasting impact on the communities we serve.

We would like to express our appreciation to Mainstream Foundation and all our partners who have supported us in our efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes in Niger State. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of women and children.

In 2018 we launched an online crowdfunding platform for cancer care because most women screened at our centre for breast and Cervical Cancer and diagnosed to be malignant would rather stay at home and wait for death or delve into traditional medicine due to the fear of paying so much for treatment.

After the #Raise1k launch where individuals can donate as low as 1,000 naira monthly for cancer patients, we began to offer them help with treatment after diagnosis.

That’s all for the 2023 Q1 Report.

Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
RAiSE Foundation Team.
