CERVICAL CANCER ELIMINATION: NIGER BEGINS HPV TESTING AND VACCINATION
As part of the Cervical Cancer Elimination strategy, Raise Foundation has commenced free HPV testing and Vaccination services amongs girls and women of reproductive age in Niger State.
The exercise was Flagged off by the Executive Governor of Niger State Dr Abubakar Sani Bello at the Jummai Babangida Matetnal and Neo-Natal Hospital Minna.
The pilot phase which covers Nine Local Government Areas will benefit five thousand (5,000) women and pave way for the W.H.O 90:70:90 ellimimintion strategy to be achieved in the state.
Wife of the Niger State Governor and Founder Raise Foundation Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello who is a member of WHO’S expert committee on cervical cancer elimination in Nigeria disclosed that cervical cancer is the 4th leading cause of death among women with about 1.4 million cases recorded.
She said the World Health Organisation is working to eliminate Cervical cancer by 2030 with less than four new cases per 100, 000 women.
This giant stride in cervical cancer prevention was achieved in partnership with CHAI, WHO, and the Niger state Ministry of health.
100 health workers across the state have also been trained on cervical cancer prevention services and screening has commenced in Chanchaga, Paikoro, Bosso, Gbako, Borgu, Suleja,Kontagora, Lapai and Mokwa Local Government Areas of Niger State.
