WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AFTER OBSTETRIC FISTULA SURGERY

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AFTER OBSTETRIC FISTULA SURGERY

21 women have been empowered with livelihood skills after recovery from obstetric fistula surgery at our women health centre in Kontagora.

The women who had their repairs done in November 2021 have fully recovered and are no longer leaking of urine. They can now cater for their households needs as well as healthcare through the acquired skills and start up packs recieved.

The empowerment after surgery became necessary when we discovered that most of the women with obstetric fistula are not able to pay for antenatal care or even afford to deliver at a health facility therefore cases of prolonged and obstructed labour are not properly handled and ultimately leads to obstetric fistula.

We encourage women to always attend Antenatal clinics during pregnancy and ensure to deliver at a health facility under the supervision of a skilled birth attendant for the safety of mother and child.
